Baby Toys To Help Infants Through The Painful Teething Stage

Teething can be very painful for babies. Gums swell and throb and have pressure of teeth coming through. The mouth is sore and tender. During this time, babies need something to "chew" on to help relieve the discomfort.

Some teething rings are hard, some are soft, and some are filled with fluid, so they can be refrigerated for a nice cooling effect on baby's mouth. Here you will find a wide variety of designs, shapes and colors. Some have handles for baby to hold onto.  Some might go with your nursery theme. Offer your baby a couple of different types of teething rings, to see which one he/she prefers.

Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether

Sophie the Giraffe is the number one selling baby teether. She's so cute with her facial expression and all of her spots. She's made of soft flexible natural rubber and has lots of small places for baby to grab and chew. Sophie the giraffe is BPA free and completely safe so she comforts parents too. There's a story behind Sophie the Giraffe. A gentleman invented Sophie in 1961 from the sap of a Hevea tree. And she's been a favorite of moms and babies ever since.

Here are some variations on the original Sophie...

Baby Einstein Caterpillar Rattle and Teether

Water filled teething toy can be chilled to give your baby extra comfort from sore gums. The Baby Einstein teether is brightly colored, rattles, and has a variety of surfaces to stimulate interest. Babies and parents love Baby Einstien toys.

Teething can start at a few months old and last until a child's 3rd birthday

Some babies are born with 1 or more teeth, and some experience teething within the 1st few weeks of life.  Usually the 2 bottom teeth appear first, then 1-2 months later, the 4 upper teeth will likely appear. Around 1 month later the 2 teeth that flank the bottom front teeth will come in. Then the first molars followed by the eyeteeth.  Don't worry if this is not the exact order that your baby's teeth arrive. If you have concerns check with your baby's physician.

The First Years Star Teething Blanket

A favorite with babies because of the different surfaces - terry cotton, chewy rubber, and crinkly satin. Stimulates the senses as it soothes gums. The rubber tips make it easy for baby to grasp too.

Signs of Teething In An Infant

  • Drooling
  • Strong desire to chew on things
  • Irritability
  • Crankiness
  • Crying spells
  • Disrupted sleeping and eating patterns
  • Teething shouldn't cause a high fever, although baby's body temp might be slightly higher than normal

Help Your Baby Ease Teething Discomfort By...

  • Giving baby something to chew on.
  • Keeping face clear of drool to prevent chaffing.
  • Do NOT tie a teething ring around baby's neck. It could get caught on something and choke your baby.
  • Rubbing your baby's gums with a CLEAN finger.

About the Author ()

I'm a Floridian by birth, a Certified Public Accountant by profession, and a toy lover by choice. I've been playing with toys for 55+ years now. I didn't have many toys of my own as a child but after having 4 kids, 3 step-kids, and 4 grand-kids I've seen and played with a lot of toys. I'm still playing with them every time I get a chance. I've started a doll collection and plan to incorporate a lot of doll information and reviews here, but you will find information on toys of all kinds and for all age groups. That includes adult collectors. I hope you enjoy your visit to Trying Out Toys.
